Murder victim’s father speaks out about youth gun violence in Rayne

RAYNE, La (KLFY) — In Rayne, gun violence concerns has one man speaking out publicly after his son was murdered a little over a year ago.

Harry Richard Sr. lost his only son to gun violence on New Years Eve 2023, and said it’s a problem that needs to be addressed.

“So many parents are losing their kid, because of guns.” he said.

Richard said gun violence among the youth is an epidemic that needs to be addressed, and addressing it starts at home. He said although law enforcement may play a part in trying to decrease gun violence, parents should be more active and present in their children’s lives.

Although it hurts, Richard said his faith and the memories of his son keeps him strong. He said it’s extremely unfortunate that a teenager was involved in his son’s murder, but he does not hate him.

“The boy that did kill my son, I don’t hate him because the bible said, ‘Do not hate your enemy,'” he said.

Because of his son’s death, Richard said, he will continue to advocate against gun violence among the youth.

Regina Richard, Harry’s wife also spoke up and said it’s been a sad time for her as she misses her son dearly.

“I’ve been missing him,” she said. “They need to take guns out of this area.”
