Former West Monroe HS coach accused of placing student-athlete in chokehold

WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On February 5, 2025, West Monroe High School coach, 33-year-old Cedric D. Goins Sr., was accused of assaulting a student-athlete. According to court documents, the victim reportedly entered Goins’s office to get food before their game that evening and Goins allegedly told the victim to put the food down.

After the victim put his food down, Goins allegedly stated, “Keep my name out of children’s conversations.” According to authorities, Goins then allegedly turned the victim around and placed him in a chokehold. The victim reportedly went unconscious and woke up in Goins’s office.

Authorities were able to confirm the victim’s story after they were advised by several witnesses. Goins was arrested on February 24, 2025, and charged with Cruelty to Juveniles and Second-Degree Battery.

He is scheduled to appear in the fourth judicial district court on February 26, 2025.
