The Meta project will have three gas power plants and over 10,000 acres of solar power. The company has pledged to use carbon sequestration to offset 60% of the new gas emissions with the potential of future wind or solar expansion.
In a presentation to a group of legislators, Entergy Louisiana Vice President of Public Affairs Jody Montelaro testified there are protections in place to protect customers from getting stuck with the bag should the project fall through for whatever reason. He also claimed this data center’s energy needs should not heavily increase rates for their customers.
“There are termination provisions in place to protect the customers. So if we undergo building these projects and for some unknown reason… were that not to happen, this particular announcement, the customer protections are in place, the requisite deposits and all are in place such that the customers are not going to be left holding the bag for these new particular assets,” Montelaro said.
Some details around the solar farm and power plant locations for this center and regulations are to be approved by the Public Service Commission to allow the project to move forward.
