Acadiana High Head Football Coach appointed to Safety position; Assistant Coach named his successor
LAFAYETTTE, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. has appointed, Acadiana High Head Football Coach, Matt McCullough as the district’s new School Security, Compliance and Event Coordinator. In this role, McCullough will oversee and enhance safety measures across all Lafayette Parish schools, ensuring secure environments for students and staff.

“Safety is one of our core pillars and a top priority for my administration,” said Superintendent Touchet. “Managing security across 46 campuses is no small task—it requires leadership, vigilance and a deep understanding of school operations. Coach McCullough’s discipline, experience and ability to lead make him an excellent fit for this role.”
LPSS said they have implemented a comprehensive safety strategy, including School Resource Officers on every campus, perimeter fencing, weapons detection systems and secure vestibules at all schools. McCullough will play a key role in further strengthening these initiatives.

After 11 years with the Acadiana High football program, seven as head coach, McCullough leaves behind an impressive legacy, having led the Wreckin’ Rams to two state championships. While stepping away from coaching, he expressed full confidence in his successor Doug Dotson.
“Acadiana football is built on tradition, discipline, and excellence,” McCullough said. “Coach Doug Dotson has the experience, passion, and leadership to continue that tradition. I have no doubt he will take the program to new heights.”
Dotson, an Acadiana High and UL alumnus, has spent four years on the Rams’ coaching staff and brings additional experience from Walker High, Comeaux High, Erath High and Central High in Baton Rouge. He said he is eager to take the helm of the storied program.
“My number one goal is to uphold and build upon the championship culture of Acadiana football,” Dotson said. “It’s an incredible honor to follow in the footsteps of the great coaches who built this program. The expectations are high, and I welcome the challenge. Once a Ram, always a Ram!”
