Steward’s withdrawal leaves Ald. Aprel Prunty (D) as the only Democratic candidate in the February 25th election.
Prunty responded, saying, “My focus has always been on serving the residents of the 6th Ward with integrity and dedication. I remain committed to working hard for our community—improving infrastructure, expanding economic opportunities, and ensuring public safety. I look forward to continuing this important work with the support of 6th Ward voters.”
Steward, a U.S. Postal Service worker, had come under scrutiny for a potential violation of the Hatch Act, a federal law that prohibits government employees from running in partisan elections.
Signage will be placed at 6th Ward polling places to notify voters that Steward is no longer a candidate.
