Man killed after allegedly intruding into Bowling Green apartment: Police say he lived nearby

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX 56) — A death investigation is underway in Bowling Green after a man allegedly broke into an apartment at the complex he lived in on Sunday morning.

The Bowling Green Police Department (BGPD) posted on Facebook that around 1 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to reports of a burglary in progress on the 1300 block of Scottsville Road.

While law enforcement was heading to the scene, the resident of the apartment stayed on the phone with emergency dispatchers.

The resident told emergency personnel that someone was allegedly kicking the door to their apartment.

The man eventually got into the apartment, where the resident allegedly shot and killed him.

The man was identified as Matthew Taggart, 23. Investigators reportedly found that Taggart lived in the same apartment complex.

“Evidence suggests he was impaired and mistakenly entered the wrong apartment,” the BGPD wrote.

An investigation into the intrusion is ongoing.
