Krewe of Centaur drives large crowd to celebrate Mardi Gras

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Krewe of Centaur brought hundreds of people to the streets from downtown Shreveport to Clyde Fant Parkway for their Mardi Gras parade.

“We’re going to have a great time; our Pegasus is going to lead us down the street, and we’re going to throw beads and toys and all kinds of stuff,” said Jeanette Eldridge, float lieutenant for the Ancient Legends float with the Krewe of Centaur.

The Krewe of Centaur says building the floats is a labor of love that it is proud to do for the community.

“To see everybody come out, we get that kind of support, we’re going to throw to you guys like it’s going to be a really really cool thing, so we hope this goes on forever and Louisiana this is- we are a tradition state. That’s what we do so it’s fantastic,” said Nico Manshack, the Duke and Duchess of Fun for the Krewe of Centaur.

Floats were decorated as Las Vegas, Barbie, Vampires, Vacations, Mount Olympus and many more.

Eldridge described how her float, Ancient Legends, was built.

“The Pegasus was quite a challenge. We took a skeleton from Halloween of a headless horseman and took the rider off and then we built the Pegasus around that skeleton,” said Eldridge.

Krewe of Centaur said they were excited for all to enjoy the parade, but they especially looked forward to seeing the children’s reactions.

“Look around, this is great. It brings everybody out, it’s safe, and that’s really what we hone in on like this event is everything. I’ve been doing this my entire life so to be a part of Centaur now is very unique very special to me so you can expect a ton of fun, and it’s free, you can’t beat this,” said Manshack.
