Coleman Fire Department warns of phone scam seeking fake donations

COLEMAN, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) The Coleman Fire Department (CFD) is warning residents about a phone scam in which a person calls local businesses and claims to collect donations for the ‘local fire department.’

According to the Coleman Fire Department, the Countywide Firefighter’s Association sent out donation letters and is hosting an upcoming event. CFD also reported that no local departments will ever randomly call phone numbers asking for donations over the phone, and they will not contact anyone to do it on their behalf.

Firefighters believe the phone number came from Ballinger, although they said it was likely fake.
