
Temperatures rebounded nicely Thursday afternoon thanks to 100% of the day’s possible sunshine.
The official 24 degree high temperature marked the warmest day here since last Sunday, February 16, despite falling short of the normal high temperature for this date by 13 degrees.
Thursday’s low temperature map across the country shows how the worst of this arctic blast again was felt across the Plains states, where scores of new record lows were observed Thursday morning, including a bone chilling -33 degrees in Valentine, Nebraska.
The Chicago area snowfall deficit continues to grow. Both major airports have only seen 40-50% of the typical amount by now and no sign of any noteworthy snows in the near future.
Highs Thursday afternoon were well below where they should be for this time of year, as much as 36 degrees below normal.
