Shooting investigation underway after police find man dead in Rowan County

MOREHEAD, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) is investigating after law enforcement found a man who died after reports of a shooting in the area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded alongside troopers with the Kentucky State Police Department (KSP) around 12:35 a.m. on Saturday when Morehead 911 had gotten a call requesting an ambulance for a man who had been shot at a residence on Oak Grove Road in Morehead.

Deputies posted on Facebook that emergency personnel found the body of a 28-year-old man at the scene.

The Rowan County Coroner’s Office pronounced the man dead at 1:39 a.m. on Saturday, per a news release.

He was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

The RCSO wrote that there is no threat to the public. An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
