FNS: Country Day beats Isidore Newman 62-50, wins District 10-2A title

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Country Day faced Isidore Newman at Cohen College Prep High with the District 10-2A title on the line, during the two schools’ regular season finale, and the Cajuns clamped the Greenies.

Country Day held Newman to eight points in the first quarter and kept the defensive dominance going throughout the day. The Greenies finished the game with only 40 points: Their third-lowest scoring total in a game the entire season, and Cajuns head coach Mike McGuire credited K.B. Brewer for sparking Country Day’s defensive performance.

“The last two games he’s played great defensively, which leads to our offense, and having Herman Dyson back really helps. I thought that Brennan White hit some shots and held the ball well, and I thought Curtis McAllister did some nice things, so I thought our depth really wore them out,” McGuire said.

Dyson and White both scored eight points, which totaled the game-high 16 Brewer racked up against the Greenies.

“I think when we get blocks and dunks like me, Curtis McAllister, Herm Dyson. It really energizes the, energizes the bench. We have a great bench energy,” Brewer added.

The sophomore played a key part in Country Day’s defensive performance, and the Cajuns had one thing on their mind: Stop RJ Livingston.

“They dropped 60 us last year so coming into this we just felt like we need to play great defense to stop RJ,” Brewer continued.

Country Day held Livingston to 14 points, and the Cajuns won the District 10-2A title.
