Two horses have died after a fire burned through a stable in Southwest Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania SPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement team was able to rescue 12 horses “after the fire ravaged the stables housing them.”

The fire broke out on the 5800 block of Lindbergh Boulevard in the early morning hours of Thursday, February 20.

When PSPCA officials arrived, they discovered two deceased horses, along with 12 living horses.

Three of the horses were immediately transported to the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center for critical treatment.

Three other horses were transported for treatment at Pennsylvania SPCA’s Philadelphia headquarters.

The six remaining horses have been relocated to the Montgomery County SPCA in Perkiomenville, PA and Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown for temporary housing.

The horses will then be moved to the PSPCA’s Danville Center.

ACCT Philly was able to take a pig and goat into their care.

PSPCA says their “priority at this time is to remove the animals from the scene and ensure they are provided with immediate medical care and shelter. Additionally, the PSPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement team, working with Philadelphia’s Fire Marshal and Police Department, is conducting an investigation, including collecting forensic evidence of the rescued horses’ body conditions and injuries, to determine any cruelty or neglect charges.”

“Today, our community was shaken by news of a devastating stable fire in Philadelphia,” said Julie Klim, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. “As news of this tragedy spreads, our Animal Law Enforcement team has been on scene since the early morning hours, working tirelessly to rescue the animals in harm’s way. We would like to thank our friends at the Montgomery County SPCA in Perkiomenville and Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown for their help in caring for the overwhelming number of horses requiring shelter at a moment’s notice.”

At this time the cause of the fire is not known.

Anyone who may have ownership of the horses in question, or knows who may own the horses, is urged to contact the PSPCA’s Animal Cruelty hotline at 866-601-7722 or cruelty@pspca.org.

The Pennsylvania SPCA is also accepting donations toward the rescue and care of these 12 horses. You can donate, HERE.
