While not quite as cold as recent days, it was another frigid start to the day across the Chicago area with temperatures very close to 0-degrees. A Cold Weather Advisory for western and far northern areas was allowed to expire at 10 a.m.

It was far colder across the Plains where numerous record lows were reported.

Daytime highs were modestly above levels observed Tuesday but continued to fall well short of typical late February levels. We observed about half the day’s allotted sunshine for February 19th and winds weren’t terribly strong.

February 2025 markedly different than the same period a year ago. Through the first 19 days, temperatures, on average, are running 13-degrees colder this year.

The breadth of the frigid, arctic air mass is expansive. High temperatures across the Plains were an eye catching 35-45 degrees below normal.
