By rssfeeds-admin KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — Sen. Rand Paul has formally requested to audit the United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox.
The United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox has stored American gold reserves since 1937. The U.S. Mint said that there are 147.3 million ounces of gold inside. The vault hasn’t been opened since 2017, and no one person is aware of all the procedures to open it.

However, President Donald Trump has questioned if the gold is still there.
“If the gold isn’t there, we’re going to be very upset,” Trump said.
“Who is confirming that gold wasn’t stolen from Fort Knox?” Elon Musk wrote. “Maybe it’s there, maybe it’s not.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent affirmed the gold is still there and that there’s an audit conducted each year.
Bessent even went as far as to say that he would be happy to arrange an inspection for any interested senator, the AP reported.
On Friday, Sen. Rand Paul posted a letter addressed to Bessent on X, formerly known as Twitter, requesting to audit the gold stored at Fort Knox.
“Forty-two years had elapsed since a civilian was allowed to enter and view the gold vault,” Paul wrote. “While the visit in 2017 was a good first step, the Mint must commit itself to be subject to regular oversight procedures.”
He asked that an in-person visit be arranged as soon as possible but no later than March 19.
