Rockford man accused of punching, strangling woman in Auburn Street apartment

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Niyan Triplett, 23, for allegedly strangling and punching a woman multiple times in the face.

On Feb. 16, around 7 p.m., officers were called to the 4000 block of Auburn Street for reports of two people fighting in an apartment. The woman told authorities the incident started arguing after the suspect found something on her phone he did not like.

Triplett proceeded to punch her three times in the face and strangled her, according to court records.

A witness told officers she saw the suspect’s arm around the victim’s neck. Another witness corroborated the first witness’s story.

Triplett is charged with domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery causing strangulation.
