JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld the convictions and sentences for a woman in connection to the death of her daughter and the abuse of her two other children.

LaTiffany Chambers was indicted on one count of capital murder for the death of LaMonica Tucker, 17, and two counts of felonious child abuse. Her fiancé, Danny Dabbs, was also indicted in the case.

On October 31, 2020, Jackson police responded to a home on Lower Drive in response to a report of an unresponsive person. When they arrived, officers discovered Tucker unresponsive with obvious signs of physical abuse. The teenager was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police said two other minor children in the home were examined, and both children had signs of prolonged physical abuse.

A Hinds County jury found Chambers guilty in April 2023. She was sentenced to life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOT) without eligibility for parole for the capital murder conviction, as well as 10 years for each felonious child abuse conviction.

Dabbs pled guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of felony child abuse. He was sentenced to 40 years on the murder charge and 10 years for the felony child abuse charges.

After the denial of her post-trial motions, Chambers appealed and argued that the trial court erred in failing to suppress her statement to law enforcement. She also argued that the state presented insufficient evidence to convict her of any of the three charges.

After reviewing the arguments, the Mississippi Court of Appeals affirmed Chambers’ convictions and sentences.
