Introduces advanced indoor gardening appliances

LG Electronics is bringing the great outdoors indoors.

At last month’s grand CES tech show in Las Vegas, the manufacturer planted the seeds of a whole new category for its appliance division with the introduction of a “personal horticultural solution.”

Specifically, LG debuted a pair of indoor gardening appliances that feature an advanced lighting and watering system designed for fast, healthy plant growth. Ideal for gardening novices as well as urbanites who enjoy bringing nature into their homes, the appliances makes plant cultivation “a simple and satisfying experience,” LG said, and serve as both elegant home furnishings and a practical means of producing fresh home-grown greens.

Lamp Champ

One of the two products is based on a modern, floor-standing lamp design. Slender and upright with a circular “lampshade” and base, its height-adjustable LED growing lights and 20-plant, four seed-pack capacity provide enough growing space to accommodate taller species along with leafy greens, herbs, flowers and fruits.

Equipped with a 1.5-gallon tank, the system allows for busy lifestyles and weeklong travel by automatically dispensing the appropriate amount of water and nutrients, based on the number and variety of plants being grown. The product also features two types of illumination that support continuous growth cycles: downward-facing lights with five intensity levels for optimal daytime plant growth, and upward-facing mood lighting to create a cozy, calming ambiance at night.

Table Model

The companion growth appliance takes the form of a compact and multifunctional end table, which “demonstrates LG’s continuing commitment to providing compelling choices for various tastes and lifestyles,” the company said.

Both models are integrated with the LG’s ThinQ mobile app, which allows users to manage cultivation schedules, adjust lighting settings and monitor plant growth from any location to ensure consistent care.

“Our new indoor gardening appliances present a fresh way for customers to create their own personal green spaces, have fun growing their own plants, and infuse their homes with an inspired touch of modern style,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company. “We will continue to deliver innovative indoor solutions that allow anyone to experience the joy of gardening, regardless of where they live.”

No word yet on pricing or when LG expects the new growing system to take root at retail.
