Expect messy roads for Thursday morning’s drive

INDIANAPOLIS – Snow overnight left area roads a mess for Thursday’s morning commute.

Many side roads were covered with powdery snow, with some ice underneath. It has made for slick conditions for area drivers.

Interstate commuters haven’t fared much better. During the overnight hours, the Indiana Department of Transportation’s TrafficWise map showed numerous incidents.

Crashes included on I-465 northbound that closed two right lanes between West 10th Street and U.S. 136 (near mile marker 15) and another on I-65 northbound between White River Parkway West Drive and Cold Springs Road (near mile marker 117) that closed two left lanes.

Both those crashes have since cleared.

INDOT reported another crash on I-465 eastbound on the north side between Indiana 431 and River Road (mile marker 33.9) affecting the outside shoulder and a crash on I-65 southbound between CR 650 S and I-865 that closed the right lane.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office reported a pair of crashes on I-65 northbound between mile markers 140 and 142. Multiple crashes were reported on I-65 southbound between mile markers 146 and 148. That stretch of interstate saw additional crashes during the overnight hours.

There were also reports of black ice:

  • I-65 at the Georgetown Road Bridge (mile marker 120)
  • I-65 at Market Street near I-65/I-70 (mile marker 111)
  • I-69 near Bloomington (mile marker 120)
