Delays expected on Hitt Road Thursday as crane will remove old bridge girder

The following is a news release and photo from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS — Drivers should be prepared for additional temporary traffic impacts on 25th East (Hitt Road) on Thursday morning.

From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., traffic will be briefly reduced to one lane in each direction on 25th East over the Sand Creek Canal. The brief lane closures are needed to allow a crane to remove the deteriorating bridge girder and place a new one. Drivers are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly or seek alterative routes.

It is anticipated that traffic will be opened to two lanes in each direction after the girder is placed.

The work must be done Thursday morning due to the availability of a crane to complete the work. The city is aware of the impacts to traffic in the surrounding area and is working through the aggressive construction schedule to get the lanes reopened as soon as possible.

Access to all businesses in the area will remain open, however please note that the access to 25th westbound from the south will be interrupted during construction. Those desiring to access 25th Street on the west side of the intersection from the south should access the area from Channing Way.

Please reduce speeds, obey posted traffic control signage, and watch for construction crews in the work zone.
