INDIANAPOLIS — A crash on I-65 southbound closed all lanes near downtown Indy, bringing traffic to a standstill Thursday morning.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the crash involved a semi truck and a passenger vehicle. INDOT also confirmed someone was trapped inside one of the vehicles.

The Pike Township Fire Department posted photos of the aftermath. The images showed a car sandwiched between a pair of semi trucks.

Emergency responders had to extricate two people from the vehicle. One of them was taken to an area hospital. The Indianapolis and Speedway fire departments assisted at the scene.

Traffic cameras showed southbound traffic at a complete stop shortly after it happened. The crash was near mile marker 116 between White River Parkway West Drive and White River Parkway East Drive.

Around 9:50 a.m., the left lane for I-65 southbound reopened and the right two lanes were closed.

Just before 11 a.m., it appeared all lanes were back open. INDOT said the scene had cleared.
