DuPage County prosecutors announced Tuesday that 22-year-old Jaime Damian pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI resulting in death and great bodily harm. According to authorities, on Sept. 14, 2023, Damian drove his 2009 Honda westbound on Roosevelt Road east of Indian Knoll Road, when he crossed over a double yellow line into oncoming traffic and struck a 2004 Lincoln sedan.
Prosecutors said firefighters had to extract the victims, Jose Correa, who was driving, and his wife Maria, a passenger, from the vehicle.
Ambulances rushed both victims to the hospital where Correa was pronounced dead. His wife suffered a broken wrist and bruises on her legs.
According to prosecutors, the investigation later revealed that Damian had cocaine in his system.
A judge sentenced Damian, who has remained incarcerated since his arrest, to 10 years in prison. He will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
