According to the 22nd Judicial District Court, in summer of 2021, a teen girl had remarked to her friends about being molested years earlier. The mother who was hosting the teens overheard the conversation, spoke to the girl and contacted the Department of Children and Family Services as well as the girl’s mother.
The girl was later interviewed and identified 63-year-old Robert Morgan as having sexually assaulted her multiple times over several years prior to her turning 13.
Two other teenagers, a male and a female, were also interviewed and also claimed that Morgan had sexually assaulted them years earlier. All testimonies provided detailed accounts of the incidents.
When interviewed, Morgan initially denied the accusations, but reportedly later admitted to them. He was arrested in November of 2021, but posted bond and was released while awaiting trial.
At the trial, prosecutors say that despite earlier admissions, Morgan now claimed that that the victims instigated the abuse, and that when he expressed remorse to detectives, it was for not telling the victims’ parents about what the victims had done.
The jury deliberated for around 40 minutes before finding Morgan guilty as charged for all charges, including two counts of first-degree rape of a child under age 13, two counts of molestation of a child under age 13, one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile and one count of sexual battery of a child under age 15.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 9. First-degree rape carries a mandatory life sentence, molestation carries up to 99 years, sexual battery carries up to 10 years and indecent behavior with a juvenile, seven years.
