Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd credited more tips from the community and better resources at the department’s disposal.
“Having the tools, the technology available to help our officers and help our detectives get after things a bit quicker. So, decreasing that time in investigation. And, once again, there’s clues, there’s bread crumbs, if you will, dropped along the way, and being able to get at that stuff a lot sooner definitely helps,” she said.
Rockford Police said there were 18 homicides in 2024, a decrease from 20 in 2023.
Following trends and looking back to 2020, there were 36 homicides recorded in the year; 2021 saw 24; a low of 15 was seen in 2022.
