MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Southaven teacher was arrested on Tuesday after police said he’d made multiple inappropriate comments towards a student.

On Monday, Southaven Police received a complaint against a 35-year-old teacher from DeSoto Central Middle School named Stephen Hart.

According to the school’s marching band website, Hart is listed as their assistant band director.

During the course of their investigation, police determined that Hart was making inappropriate comments toward a student.

On Tuesday, Hart was taken into custody and charged with two counts of child exploitation.

Police say that this remains an ongoing investigation.

WREG reached out to the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office for comment and they said the following:

“The DA’s office is aware of the Tyler Hart arrest, but we defer questions to the Southaven Police Department as they continue their investigation. This is a developing situation, and we cannot comment further until after we receive a file from the Southaven PD.”
