CHICAGO (WGN) — A 17-year-old boy faces multiple felonies charges after a woman with two children was carjacked on the city’s West Side, Chicago police announced Tuesday.
The formal charges come one day after a 26-year-old woman was sitting inside a vehicle with two boys, ages 1 and 6-years-old, in the 2700 block of West Lexington Street in East Garfield Park around 4:20 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17.
According to police, she was approached by two males who implied they had a weapon. The woman and 1-year-old boy were then forced out of the vehicle.
The males then fled in the woman’s vehicle with the 6-year-old boy still inside, police added. After a short distance, the boy was forced outside of the vehicle as well.
The offenders then fled again and crashed the vehicle on the Eisenhower Expressway.
No injuries were reported. Police said the arrest occurred around 4:35 a.m., less than 20 minutes after the alleged carjacking.
In addition to carjacking, the male juvenile faces felony charges of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing police.
