Hamilton County sees pro sports boom as Pro Volleyball Federation preps for All Star Weekend

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. — In the span of a single year, Hamilton County is adding multiple new arenas and professional sports teams.

Right now, off of Interstate 69 near Olio Rd., crews are actively working on the Arena at Innovation Mile. The 3,400-seat, 120,000-square-foot arena will be the new home of the Pacers G-League team, which will take on a new name in its new home.

”Name yet to be determined, or at least they haven’t told us,” said Carl Daniels, the Director of the Hamilton County Sports Authority.

The arena won’t even be the first new venue in the last year in Hamilton County. The Fishers Event Center opened in late 2024. It’s now home to three professional sports teams. The Indy Fuel moved up from the Circle City, the Fishers Freight indoor football team is getting set to start and the Indy Ignite pro volleyball team is in the middle of its inaugural season.

”These opportunities present themselves because of the commitment that these communities have made to sport and building these types of arenas,” Daniels said.

Hamilton County has long been known for having a healthy youth sports environment, especially with Grand Park in Westfield. Now, Daniels said they’re adding onto that.

”I’m just excited those people are spending time, spending their leisure time in Hamilton County,” Daniels said when asked about fans now heading to the Fishers Event Center.

Hamilton County is also grabbing international attention with a LIV Golf Tournament at the Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield. Daniels said attention like this will help give the area exposure.

Their first taste of that with the new pro sports in town is set to be the Pro Volleyball Federation All-Star Match this Saturday at the Fishers Event Center.

”Any time we can host an all-star event for a pro league that’s exciting,” Daniel said.

The Indy Ignite have gotten off to a hot start in their inaugural season. The team sold out its very first match and now becomes the host for the relatively young league.

”We knew we had an incredible volleyball community here in Indiana. We knew we had an incredible sports community, but to see it really come to life and see how the fans have shown up on the edge of their seat for every point, high energy, the players love it,” said Mary Kay Huse, the President and General Manager of the Indy Ignite.

Huse said the All-Star Match is a great opportunity to continue introducing the new team to the area.

”Our goal for the PVF All-Star Game is to continue to grow the brand awareness of the league itself,” Huse said. “Pro volleyball is still so new in the U.S. Knowing it exists and what it is and really exposing that to a broader audience is really number one.”

The game will also be broadcast on CBS to a national audience. Four-time Olympic medalist Shawn Johnson and former Pacers player and sports analyst Jalen Rose will also host.

“One of the reasons behind asking them was we knew they had interest and enthusiasm for volleyball, but, obviously, their fanbase brings in a whole different level of sports fans we can introduce to the sport to and continue to grow the popularity of it,” Huse said.

The national audience that will tune into the All-Star match is also a level of exposure Fishers and Hamilton County don’t often see.

”I see sports as a way for people to get their first look at a community at times,” Daniels said. “Especially, with it being on CBS, people are going to hear about it, people are going to mention Fishers, they’re going to mention Hamilton County and that’s an exciting time for us.”
