Deputies arrest Baton Rouge man linked to shooting that left 1 dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A second suspect was arrested in connection to a shooting that left one dead.

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office detectives were called to an apartment complex in the 13600 block of Kenner Avenue on Dec. 16 about a reported shooting. Shots were reportedly fired at both victims as they were trying to unlock a front door.

One of the victims was found by deputies behind a nearby home on Metairie Street. Life-saving measures were performed but the victim was later pronounced dead.

Deputies arrested Johnny Johnson III, 25, and Treyvonne Jarrell, 24, during an investigation.

Johnson was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder on Jan. 15.

Jarrell was arrested and booked on Feb. 17 on charges of principles to attempted first-degree murder and principles to first-degree murder. He was identified as the driver of a Nissan Altima seen on surveillance footage circling the victim’s apartment. The surviving victim told investigators that Johnny had a close friend who drove the car described.

Arrest documents said Jarrell was taken in for questioning on Feb. 6, during which he denied knowing that Johnson was in jail for his involvement in the crime. Deputies said Jarrell denied owning or driving a Nissan Altima, though his mother told investigators he does own one.

An affidavit said Jarrell later acknowledged that he knew Johnson but denied his involvement in the shooting.
