Clear bags to be enforced at Gallier Hall for Mardi Gras parades

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New rules are in place for people planning to bring bags to their viewings of parades at Gallier Hall in New Orleans.

According to officials with the City of New Orleans, a clear bag policy will be enforced at Gallier Hall starting on Thursday, Feb. 20, and lasting through March 4.

Officials gave the following clarifications:

“Only clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags measuring no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″ will be permitted at designated venues. Additionally, small clutch bags no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″ will be allowed. However, clear backpacks and fanny packs will not be permitted under this policy,” a news release states.

The changes are reportedly being made to prioritize public safety. Additionally, guests will pass through a metal detector when they walk in.
