A constant battle: Irvine floral shop on edge with high waters near

IRVINE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. This is what Nikki Angel continues to do, as her job of making people’s days through scents and beauty still goes on.

“I have to focus on orders, get it out for customers, and in the back of my head, I worry about how I’m going to plan to survive—get less damage as possible,” Nikki said.

After experiencing flooding in Floral Design by Nikki before, she said she is doing everything in her power to save her business this time. This includes sleeping at the shop to monitor water levels and even going through some hard days of labor.

“I’m gonna get too old to move this stuff, the boxes; it’s heavy, honey. I’m getting too old. You have no idea how hard, how heavy, to pick it up from the floor and get it up to the table,” Nikki said.

In a county that has been hit hard by flooding, Nikki’s shop is surviving, with just a few feet to spare before it is filled with water. She said with snow in the forecast, she is afraid of what this could mean to her business, which has remained dry thus far.

“I hope the snow is not melting and push the water level up higher in the next couple days,” she said.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

With Valentine’s Day just past and Mother’s Day and Memorial Day ahead, Nikki will continue going strong during her busy months of the year, but she is not sure how much longer it will be in her current location.

“What I learned from the last time is, I don’t want to go through that again. If I could, I would love for my flower shop to be out of the flooding zone,” Nikki said.
