Rockford man charged with battering a woman and an officer at Extended Stay

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Demetrious Broadwater, 55, for allegedly battering a woman and an officer.

On Feb. 14, around 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the Extended Stay Hotel on Clark Drive for reports of an argument that turned physical in one of the hotel rooms.

The victim told authorities she attempted to leave the room but the suspect refused to let her leave. Broadwater grabbed the woman by her shirt collar and shook her when she tried to leave, according to court records.

The victim sustained injuries after she fell to the ground, officials reported.

When authorities arrived, the suspect slapped an officer’s hand when he was trying to close the door. The woman was eventually able to leave the room.

Broadwater was taken into custody shortly after.

He is charged with unlawful restraint, aggravated battery of an officer, domestic battery causing bodily harm and resisting an officer.
