According to retired Circuit Judge Forrest A. Johnson, ShamsidDeen does not meet the two-year residency requirement. The judge said ShamsidDeen’s homestead remains outside of Jackson, and his voting history, along with vehicle registration and driver’s license addresses, are outside of the capital city.
ShamsidDeen filed the appeal in the Circuit Court of the First Judicial District of Hinds County. He asked the court to reverse the decision of the City of Jackson Municipal Democratic Executive Committee that left him off of the ballot.
Keyshia Sanders was also left off of the ballot after she pled guilty to wire fraud in January 2023. She was the former Constituent Service Manager for the City of Jackson.
