Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 9:44 p.m. to 9940 E. 38th Street, the listed address for Indyland Laundromat, after receiving reports that a person was possibly shot in the area.
IMPD said officers arrived and found an adult male and female juvenile suffering from gunshot wounds. They were last reported to be “awake and breathing.”
IMPD Capt. Rob Rider said preliminary information indicates the man is a rideshare driver and picked up the female before the incident unfolded.
As the victims were inside the man’s vehicle, Rider said two suspects approached and pointed firearms at the driver demanding that they get out of the vehicle.
The driver refused to exit the vehicle and fled the scene. As they were driving away, Rider said the suspects reportedly fired multiple rounds in their direction and struck them.
The man pulled in front of the laundromat where he called the police. Rider said police have no suspect descriptions at this time as detectives are currently on the scene canvassing for additional evidence.
