As players settle in New Orleans, they follow up behind the biggest stage in the National Football League.
“They just played the Super Bowl here… when you ask why New Orleans?”, says Doug Williams. “Let’s be real, when you talk about New Orleans, you talk about the culture of historically black colleges, you talk about New Orleans. The culture down here is what it is. It’s great, but it’s also a great place to have a game like this. You come to New Orleans because the fans have more to do than just come to a football game.”
Opportunities beyond the field include a career fair later in the week, which has had proven success in the past. Last year, about 100 students were offered jobs on the spot.
“For those who may not play in the NFL, to able to provide a career fair that can enhance their future and their career and the opportunity to network with other players”, James Harris. “Some day, they may become important to each other because some day they may employ each other giving jobs or their family jobs. So that’s what makes the whole thing worth it.”
The HBCU Legacy Bowl game will be played on Saturday, February 21st at Yulman Stadium. Kick is at 3 p.m., airing on NFL Network.
