Jessa Clough is a student at Heritage Elementary School in Madison. She was on hand at the governor’s early Arbor Day celebration.
Jessa and some other students helped Ivey ceremonially plant a Japanese maple tree on the capitol grounds. Ivey talked to the students about trees.
“They clean our air,” Ivey said. “They protect our waters and provide shade on those hot summer days, and we all know how much we appreciate that here in Alabama. They are also essential to our economy, supporting jobs in forestry, agriculture and conservation.”
National Arbor Day is April 25.
