By rssfeeds-admin PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — Crews will continue working on Monday to remove a massive tree that fell on top of a car Sunday evening killing the driver who was parked in the Crescentville neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia.
Philadelphia police said a tree toppled onto a Honda Accord parked on the 500 block of Hill Creek Drive at 6:09 p.m. The victim was inside the car, and when first responders arrived, she was pronounced dead.
Firefighters spent hours using the ‘jaws of life’ to recover the body from the car, as well as power saws to break up the tree that was uprooted.
Upon the initial investigation, police believe Sunday night’s high wind gusts led to the tree falling. Wind speeds reached up to 60 mph in the region causing several downed trees and power outages. According to Action News, neighbors also reported a tree falling onto power lines that are strung throughout the Crescentville neighborhood.
