On Sunday, Pike County Judge Executive Ray Jones signed an order setting a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for all areas of the county impacted by flooding or other storm damage, until another order cancels the curfew.
“This curfew is necessary to prevent interference with recovery and cleanup efforts and to prevent looting,” the order reads.
The order banned anyone from traveling into a flooded area unless they resided there.
In a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Kentucky Emergency Management leader Eric Gibson and Gov. Andy Beshear issued a warning to the public to avoid any travel to areas impacted by the flooding after a Clay County man was recovered on Saturday evening, and eight other deaths were reported on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, Pike County Schools announced that classes were canceled until further notice.
