Police say Feb. 13 just before midnight they responded to reports of shots fired and a large disturbance near West and Ashlan avenues.
Officers report on scene they found an unoccupied ambulance that was struck by gunfire. The ambulance personnel were inside the location providing medical aid to an unrelated call.
Investigators say witnesses told them a vehicle left at a high rate of speed. Shortly after, a ShotSpotter activation led officers to Princeton and West avenues where they found two vehicles parked— one of which matched the witnesses’ descriptions.
After a gun was found in the lap of one of the drivers, police say both the driver and passenger from each vehicle were safely removed from the two vehicles. Video surveillance revealed one driver was fighting outside a business when he allegedly grabbed the gun from his waist and fired into the ambulance.
Detectives report the other driver took the unregistered firearm away from the alleged shooter and they all fled in their vehicles.
As a result, police say the alleged shooter was arrested on suspicion of DUI, carrying a concealed firearm, and using this firearm to shoot at an unoccupied vehicle. The other driver was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle while in a public parking lot, carrying a firearm in his possession in a vehicle, and the firearm was capable of being concealed on his person, and not being listed as the registered owner of the firearm with the Department of Justice.
Additionally, officers say the passenger of each vehicle was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication-disorderly conduct.
