Flowood officer injured, suspect killed in shooting

FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – A Flowood police officer was injured and a suspect was killed during an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting occurred on Lakeland Drive near Treetops Boulevard on Sunday, February 16.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said a Flowood officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. When the officer approached the vehicle, Martin said the passenger exited the vehicle and fired shots.

According to Martin, the officers discharged their weapons and hit the suspect, who received fatal injuries. The officer who was injured received non-life threatening injuries.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will investigate the shooting. They will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
