President Trump approves emergency disaster declaration request in Kentucky

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — As widespread flash floods affected Kentuckians over the weekend, Governor Andy Beshear announced federal funding will be available for impacted areas after writing a request to President Donald Trump regarding an emergency disaster declaration.

On Saturday afternoon, Governor Beshear took to social media to say he has written to President Trump requesting an emergency disaster declaration in Kentucky.

“I have written to [President Donald Trump] requesting an emergency disaster declaration for Kentucky due to the severe weather and impacts across our state,” says Governor Beshear. “The declaration would make federal funding available to affected areas, helping us better respond and support Kentuckians affected.”

On Sunday morning around 8 a.m., Governor Beshear says President Trump has approved the request and that federal funding will be available to residents of impacted areas.

“Kentucky, we are seeing dangerous and life-threatening conditions across the state,” says Governor Beshear. “Things are only going to get tougher due to widespread flooding and incoming weather.
