HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Several students and an administrator have been sent to the hospital following a Sunday morning accident involving three charter buses.

Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation communication officer Jason Woebkenberg says the buses were transporting EVSC Honors Band, Orchestra and Choir students to Ohio State University for a musical event.

John Bradley with Louisville Metro Police Department says the crash happened around 9 a.m. and none of the injuries are serious.

Bradley says a semitruck had jack knifed farther north of I-71, causing a stoppage of traffic. He says three charter buses were traveling behind where the third bus allegedly slid and crashed into the second bus. It is said this caused the second bus to crash into a passenger car and the first bus.

Woebkenberg says at least four students and a director were sent to a nearby hospital, while Bradley says eight people in total were injured.

Officials say the buses that were not involved have left the scene and are returning home. They say the charter bus company is sending replacement buses for the rest of the group.

This is a developing story.
