Driver crashes into CFD fire truck on Eisenhower Expressway early Sunday morning, Illinois State police say

CHICAGO — A driver crashed into a Chicago Fire Department fire engine early Sunday morning on the Eisenhower Expressway and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and issued citations for Move Over Law violations, according to Illinois State Police.

ISP says that just after 4:30 a.m., troopers responded to I-290 eastbound at Morgan Street in Chicago for a crash involving a CFD fire engine. Preliminary information indicated the fire truck was blocking lanes of traffic to protect a previous crash scene, with lights activated, when it was hit by a black 2018 Nissan.

According to ISP, the driver of the fire truck was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The expressway was reopened just before 7 a.m. Sunday.

The investigation is active, and police say no other information is available at this time.
