City of Manchester, Clay County declare state of emergency amid intense floods: Here’s where officials say to take shelter

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — The city of Manchester as well as Clay County have both declared a state of emergency as torrential rain continues to cover roads and sweep through the county’s infrastructure.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Clay County Emergency Management (CCEM) posted on Facebook that Manchester and the county had declared a state of emergency.

An emergency shelter has been opened at Paces Creek Elementary School.

Emergency crews in the county and across the Commonwealth have been working active operations for most of Saturday, with rain and flooding set to carry over into Sunday.

CCEM staff asked that residents in the area only call 911 in an emergency.
