Just before 3 a.m. on Feb. 8, Provo fire personnel responded to 1620 South State Street on reports of a second-alarm fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a four-story apartment building under construction fully engulfed in flames.
There were three other four-story buildings under construction in the immediate area, and the fire was spreading, according to Jeanie Atherton, Provo Fire Captain. The blaze spread to two other buildings, taking down a total of three structures.
The three buildings were reportedly in the framing stages of construction and easily flammable. Though firefighters were able to save the fourth structure, Atherton said damages are estimated to be $4.5 million.
The blaze reportedly also damaged power lines, causing outages in Provo. No injuries occurred in this fire.
Firefighters from Springville and Mapleton also responded to this incident. A total of around 30 firefighters were on scene Saturday morning.
