WEBER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A Weber County Deputy was arrested in January, accused of domestic violence and intoxication, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Zachary Anderson, 38, has been charged with misdemeanor assault and intoxication. Court records show he has since been released from jail on a $1,500 bail, pending his pretrial hearing.

According to court documents, officers with the Sunset Police Department responded to a domestic incident on Jan. 16 where the victim said that Anderson had hit them. Police said the two had a verbal argument when Anderson allegedly struck the victim with the back of his hand, leaving an obvious red mark.

The affidavit said that Anderson had been drinking and smelled strongly of alcohol.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office said that Anderson was off duty at the time of his arrest. He was placed on administrative leave the next morning.

“Due to the ongoing internal investigation and pending judicial process, no further information will be released at this time,” the sheriff’s office said.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
