IDAHO FALLS — Fishermen and -women of all ages are meeting up for fly tying, fish tales and more at the 29th East Idaho Fly Fishing and Tying Expo this weekend at the Mountain America Center.
The annual event is billed as the region’s “premier gathering for fly tiers, fly fishers, guides, outfitters and vendors” on its website. Admission is free.
The two-day event kicked off Friday and features the International Fly Fishing Film festival at 7 p.m. It continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, with a banquet and auctions at 5:30 p.m.
Throughout the day adults and youth can participate in “fly tying, workshops, free destination and technique programs, activities, a casting pond, a theater, raffle and silent auctions,” according to its webpage.
“What we do here is we basically just teach kids, or even adults, how to create a wooly bugger or any fly they want,” said youth volunteer Grace Macdonald, who was manning the youth fly tying booth with 13-year-old Ricky Holden.
“I enjoy just meeting new people,” she added.
