Shortly before 2 p.m. on Feb. 14, police received a call about a reported assault on the 600 East block of 1300 South in Salt Lake City’s Liberty Wells neighborhood. Officers responded to the scene and learned that Calvin Smith, 31, had allegedly gotten into an argument with a woman over a parking spot.
The victim — a 61-year-old woman — reportedly told police that she was standing in a parking spot to save it for a family member, who was “turning around nearby,” a press release from SLCPD states.
When the woman told Smith that she was saving the spot, Smith reportedly accelerated toward her, stopping inches away from hitting her. Smith allegedly then reversed and accelerated toward her again, resulting in his car “hitting the victim’s arm” as she moved out of the way, the release states.
The victim sustained minor injuries in the incident, police said.
Smith was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on one charge of aggravated assault. No further information is available at this time.
