DUSON, La. (KLFY) — Two families from Duson and Carencro have come together to help 7-year-old Eli Prejean in his ongoing battle with a rare medical condition.

Ross and Lacey Prejean said their journey with their son, Eli, has been anything but ordinary. Lacey said when she was pregnant with Eli, doctors discovered had Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction, a rare birth defect in a woman’s uterus.

“He was born with underdeveloped lungs, he was born with end stage renal disease, he was living on dialysis at ten days old and because of the LUTO, he couldn’t get his urine out, so it just filled up his bladder,” said Lacey.

Eli is currently admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston for an infection, that has lasted for over 90 days. To give faith to the Prejean family, a family friend, Shane Desormeaux, and his wife, Becky Desormeaux, started a prayer group this past Monday.

“It was our second night we went live, Ross and I was talking, we had 350 logins, we a family of five, so if we did an average of three people, 350 log ins at three that’s 1,050 people praying at the same time, it is powerful,” said Shane.

Shane says he hopes the community’s support will give the family the strength they need to persevere through this difficult time.

“Even though the parents are watching their child suffer on the bed, going through, Eli tough as nails, a little warrior, even though through all the pain and suffering he still is always smiling through everything,” he said.

Ross and Lacey say they are thankful for the Duson and Carencro community coming together to pray for them. They say this journey has brought them closer to God. They say through God, all things are possible.

“It’s definitely brought us closer to God and to see other good in people, I have more empathy towards people, it just opened my eyes to a world that I didn’t even know existed before I had Eli,” said Lacey.
