Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol told ABC4.com the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. A box truck had reportedly broken down and came to a stop in the gore area between I-15 and the I-84 on-ramp when a Mini Cooper lost control.
The Mini Cooper crashed into the back of the box truck with its passenger side. The driver of the Mini Cooper, identified only as a 29-year-old man, died on the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The crash heavily impacted traffic, closing the on-ramp to I-84. Lt. Roden said the ramp is expected to be closed until about 10 a.m.
Traffic along southbound I-15 has also been brought to a near standstill with congestion backing up for nearly two miles, past 31st Street in Ogden.
Alternate routes around the crash include using Riverdale Road to I-84 or I-15.
