EAST BERNSTADT, Ky. (FOX 56) — One person is severely injured after a home explosion on Wednesday in East Bernstadt.

Kentucky State Police announced that, at 3:16 p.m., the home on Glenview Road exploded and, by the time the firefighters arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.

According to East Bernstadt Fire and Rescue, the homeowner, Shirley Wynn, 66, of London, was taken to Saint Joseph London-Hospital after severe burns were observed covering roughly 80% of her body.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

    Portions of the roof and multiple windows were blown out of the small home.

    The cause of the explosion is not known at this time, but early findings suggest that the explosion could have been caused by propane gas that was being used for floor space heaters.

    Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation.
