SKOKIE, Ill. — A water main break in Skokie is causing major flooding issues and icy conditions.

Skokie officials said the break occurred at East Prairie and Emerson around 5:15 a.m.

Road closures are in place at McCormick from Dempster to Golf and East Prairie from Church to Golf.

Emergency officials are asking people to avoid the area.

Water supply in the village is impacted as well. A boil order has been issued for the area and for parts of Evanston as well.

Evanston released the following map showing where the boil order is in effect.

“Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for five minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in water,” authorities said.

Police said public works crew are on the scene and working to resolve the issue.

The Skokie-Morton Grove School District 69 canceled school Friday due to the break.

SkyCam9 observed a utility crew working on the possible break near McCormick and Emerson.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
